The pishtaq or Iwan was an integral part of the dome shaped Islamic architectural buildings seen around northern India. The grandness of Mughal architecture is represented in the lines and lines of free flowing jewelled strings which connect themselves back to the dome shaped element in the form of a cylindrical tassel. The chiselled pattern engraved on the dome shaped silver jhumka is reminiscent of the way Mughal monuments were always hand engraved with geometrical patterns and inscriptions.
